Lem Nancy is an Interior Designer, Actor, Screenwriter, Producer and Director
Lem nancy is an actor, screenwriter, producer and director who has written for television shows such as the hit series “The O.C.” and the sitcom “Modern Family.” She has also appeared in several feature films, including the 2006 action-thriller “American History X” with Jason Statham. During her tenure as an advocate, lem nancy founded the Domestic Violence Legal Clinics in Alameda and Contra Costa counties and was instrumental in creating the Mid-Peninsula Support Network, now the Family Safety Center. She has presented at conferences nationwide on the subject of domestic violence, sexual assault and stalking. She has received numerous awards for her work, including the American Bar Association Commission on Domestic Violence Corbitt Award and an Outstanding Woman of Berkeley.
Nancy’s career began in domestic violence prevention as an advocate and then as a lawyer, practicing both criminal and family law. She has trained attorneys, shelter workers and police and public agencies charged with responding to domestic violence. She has also worked as a staff attorney with the Domestic Violence Unit of Alameda County’s Legal Aid Society, and as the legal program director of Battered Women’s Alternatives (now Stand for Families Free of Violence) in Contra Costa county.
As an artist, she has focused on photo art direction for publications such as Black Belt magazine and Karate Illustrated at Rainbow Publications in Burbank, California; and Motorcyclist and Dirt Rider magazines at Petersen Publishing Company in Los Angeles, California. Her work is influenced by her love of photography and the ability to let the photographs speak for themselves.
A native of Orillia, Lem is a Registered ARIDO Interior Designer and a member of IDC, DDA and NKBA. Her design firm specializes in residential and commercial interior design for corporate, hospitality and private clients, including space planning, custom furniture and drapery, colour consultations and kitchen and bath design. Her designs reflect a modern elegance that reflects each client’s individual style, taste and vision.
Lem has been featured in a number of national media outlets, including The Wall Street Journal, People, InStyle and The New York Times. She has also been a guest on a variety of radio shows, including the nationally syndicated “The Pat Buchanan Show.” Lem is currently working on a book about her experiences as an advocate for victims of domestic violence and has spoken at colleges and universities around the country. She is also an advocate for the arts and community service projects, and was a founding board member of The Orillia Playhouse. She is a co-founder of the Orillia Streets Alive banner project, and has been an active volunteer for the Girl Guides of Canada and the YWCA of Orillia.
